Apples and Honey

My food theme this week has been apples and honey. The last couple days of this week have been Rosh Hashanah, which is the Jewish New Year. Although I am not home to go to services and have a all my close family and friends over and most importantly have a huge homemade feast there is one thing that can still connect me to the holiday. Apples and Honey are the two foods that represent having a sweet new upcoming year. Every meal during Rosh Hashanah there are always apples and honey laid at year part of the table so people are sure to have that sweet new year. I love this tradition not only because the combination is really good but apples and honey are something that I only have on this holiday so it really means a great new year for me. I had a rough year this year with it for a couple reason. Every year I teach my friends about the different Jewish holidays because for the most part they do not know muchabout them. This year, not only did I not go by tradition and use honey, instead I used carmel, but also as I was showing off my apple cutting skills, as I do every year, I cut off a piece of my thumb and could not finish my demonstration. So, all in all my friends got a sample of Rosh Hashanah but it definitely did not go as planned.
Apples and HONEY will you bring a sweet new year, try it sometime.

  1. I had my second root canal of the month this morning--and as of this afternoon I can finally eat cold crunchy things again! Bring on the Spencers, and Baldwins, and Empires! And the local honey!
