Sunday Costco Runs.. and Frozen Foods

Costco is amazing. After church almost every Sunday, my family would do grocery shopping at the nearby Costco. The wholesales warehouse sells clothes, electronics, jewelry, toiletries, but most importantly to me, FOOD.

Around busy afternoon and early evening hours, there are many workers who have their own stands situated in different aisles, preparing food samples for customers in hopes that they may consider buying them.

Just the other Sunday during Thanksgiving break, my father had to go on a classic Costco run for groceries. I always love trying new food I haven't had before or usually don't eat on normal occasion. We passed the bakery section, stopping to eat the pecan pie sample. Then, we progressed over to the deli section where there were crackers and lobster dip. After that came the frozen foods sections, where there are often the most amount of samples due to the popularity and convenience of easily popping them into the microwave. Here we enjoyed samples of Spanakopita, burritos, and mini won tons.

Out of all the great-tasting food, I think the Spanakopita was the best. I've actually eaten this before, funny enough, after my mom bought the frozen box from Costco a couple years ago. Filled with feta cheese and spinach, this Greek food can serve as a nice appetizer, especially since Costco sells them in small triangles. In past experiences with the frozen Spanakopita, the microwave simply does not do it justice. The spinach pie is made of flaky, phyllo sheets that only the oven can bring out its satisfying crispiness.

You might think the customers who are invited to eat these samples are only receiving free food, but even if the customer isn't going to buy that particular food, Costco is able to provide customers a little bit of content. And who doesn't mind a bit of snacking while doing some grocery shopping?
